TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan may face difficulty in sharply cutting necessary expenses for the transfer of some of the U. S. Marines based in Okinawa to Guam, even if the size becomes smaller than initially planned, Finance Minister Jun Azumi suggested... Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba, however, stressed Japan has yet to decide how much of the cost it may shoulder of transferring some of the Marines. "With regard to sewage and waterworks systems, I feel it's necessary to have substantial infrastructure building, regardless of whether the size of the transfer becomes bigger or smaller," Azumi said during a session of parliament. Azumi's remarks came after U. S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta this week signaled that Washington hopes Japan will make a notable financial contribution to the transfer of troops from the southern Japanese island.Source: Mainichi Daily News

With the plans for the federal gov't to relocate 15,000 US Marines to Guam from Okinawa over the next 5-7 years, Guam is going to be ripe for more US businesses to set up shop and capitalize on all the potential business.

Federal and local entities that oppose plans for a Marine firing range in Guam’s Pågat area have filed a lawsuit against the Defense Department in a Hawaii federal court. The proposed firing range has become one of the most controversial aspects of the coming military buildup on the island, which could bring 41,000 people — including 5,163 Marines — to Guam by 2016. The Guam Preservation Trust has partnered with the National Preservation Trust and protest group We Are Guåhan in filing the 86-page lawsuit. The lawsuit calls for a federal judge to stop any plans to build the proposed firing range along Route 15, near the ancient Pågat Village site....
