The returning men tell of feeling good about being remembered, and veterans who served years ago appreciate a sensibility miles away from the anger directed at those returning from Vietnam. The signs have been going up for years as the boys who leave for all branches of service return as men. Others give similar welcome to U. S. Marine Lance Cpl. The signs begin at the school and continue through the village of Canaseraga to the other end at the Fawcett American Legion Post. There may be signs now and then in other communities, and yellow ribbons as well, but nobody in this region so consistently remembers their youth in military service as Canaseragans. It is a simple effort, those home made signs, but it means a lot. The signs are there for every brief rest from duty, and there when the commitment to serve finally ends.
